27 JUNE 2016
The process for my new artwork
I start with a new canvas and tear up tissue paper and then glue it and paste it down to cover the whole canvas. Next I will be drawing and then painting the design. I will keep you posted on the progress.
My first canvas prints of my Van Gogh series arrived today and I am so excited they have turned out to be amazing. I look forward to having an exhibition later in the year.
Joy and peace xo Lana

I am having so much fun with the colour!
With the image for the Pair of wooden clogs I ended up using it upside down as it looked more balanced.
I was interested in the positive and negative shapes and the colour combinations.
I decided to portray my reaction to the Old Woman of Arles upside down as it shows a different aspect of her personality to me.
The fabric looks like layers of an onion to me which represents the many layers to a person who has lived a long full ...Read Full Post »

My interpretation is a picture of a bedroom in a bedroom. Van Gogh liked it best out of all the paintings in his room when he came out of hospital when he had a psycological crisis and the injury to his ear. It is also one of Van Gogh's most loved art works to this day.
He did three versions of 'The Bedroom'. The first version painted in October 1888 while living in the Yellow House in Arles. . This painting got water damage while he was away so he made a copy in case because Theo was t...Read Full Post »

Although Van Gogh was influenced by the Impressionists love of light and colour in his artwork he was one of the first artists to be 'expressionistic'.
That is an individualist pre-occupied with his subjective reactions. He broke the barriers in his personal life by rejecting his family religion and many of society's conventions. In his artwork he distorted perspective and the shapes and proportions of objects in the interest of emotional expression. In his markmaking he ...Read Full Post »

Just thought I might write a bit of my Van Gogh research as I am having this conversation.
Van Gogh only sold one painting commercially in his lifetime but is now recognized as a
Master among the Post Impressionist Artists. While working in the Hague he believed in
socially conscious art and many of his early drawings were of a suffering, hardworking
mankind in soup kitchens and working in fields. He had a strong copassion for his fellow

I was given a 2015 calendar of Van Gogh paintings, the type you tear off each day.
Once I had torn it off each day I didn't want to throw it away so I have been sticking
them into my Art Journal and having an Art conversation by doing my interpretive
drawing to go with each image. I have gathered them together and from now on for
the rest of this year will be posting them as I do them. So enjoy!
